O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge. — Psalm 7:2
Mass Readings: Jeremiah 11:18-20/John 7:40-53
Each year during the weeks leading up to Easter, our family has a tradition of watching the movie “Jesus of Nazareth.” For me, this film brings the personalities of the Gospel to life in a powerful way. I’m particularly drawn to the character of Nicodemus, a member of the Sanhedrin who, as we see in today’s Gospel, becomes an unlikely champion for the truth. Though his first late-night meeting with Jesus was in secret (Jn 3:1-21), today he boldly defends Our Lord in public, and causes the other Pharisees to question his allegiance.
Here was a man who risked everything to follow Jesus: his position, his reputation, and even his life. In the face of ridicule or persecution, how far are we willing to go to follow the truth?
Prayer: Precious Lord, wherever You go, give me the courage to follow.
