The Lord in my light and my salvation. — Psalm 27:1a
Mass Readings: Genesis 15:5-12,17-18/Philippians 3:17–4:1 or 3:20–4:1/Luke 9:28b-36
One chilly spring afternoon back in high school I was at one of our baseball games. Although I’m a baseball fan, this game didn’t seem at all interesting. Nothing much happened and I was cold. More than once I thought about leaving, but decided to stick it out. I went home happy that we had won and that I was indoors. The next day, a PA announcement from the principal told us what I had missed: Our pitcher had thrown a perfect game.
I’m reminded of that game when I read today’s Gospel story about the Transfiguration of Jesus. The apostles didn’t get the significance of what they saw until after the Resurrection when the pieces finally began to fall into place. The Transfiguration changed Jesus’ appearance in obvious ways. How is Jesus changing me?
Prayer: Father, open my ears to the words of Your Son.
