February 7, Thursday Weekday

O God, we ponder your mercy within your temple. — Psalm 48 (see 10)

Mass Readings: Hebrews 12:18-19,21-24/Mark 6:7-13

Sharing Responsibility

I hate delegating responsibility when I care deeply about something. I know no one can do it exactly as I would. Yet I know I can’t do everything. Deep down I also know that while others may not do something the way I would, they will still do as good a job. (And maybe an even better one!)

Today’s Gospel story of Jesus sending out the apostles in groups of two is an important lesson for me. Jesus, the Son of God, knew both that no one could carry out this mission as well as He could and that the Twelve included men who would betray and deny Him. Yet, He trusted. They responded by driving out demons, and anointing and curing the sick. All that happened because Jesus trusted the power of God to work through others.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to trust, as You did, in God and in others.
