Let your hearts take comfort, all who hope in the Lord. — Psalm 31:25
Mass Readings: Hebrews 11:32-40/Mark 5:1-20
In high school I dreamed of working in New York City as a famous newspaper reporter, or a nationally-known radio announcer, or a top advertising copywriter. As the years passed, the idea of going to New York slipped away. Instead, I spent most of my working life at Catholic diocesan newspapers in Portland, Ore., and Green Bay, Wis.
The man in today’s Gospel who was possessed by many demons, also had a dream after Jesus freed him — to follow the Lord. Instead, Jesus tells him to go home and tell his family all that God had done for him. Jesus gave us all a mission at baptism: to live and proclaim the good news of salvation. How and where I do that is less important than the fact that I actually do it.
Prayer: Jesus, guide me to follow my mission in the way You envision.
