The salvation of the just comes from the Lord. — Psalm 37:39a
Mass Readings: Hebrews 10:32-39/Mark 4:26-34
Gardening ranks low on my list of hobbies, although I enjoy the harvest — especially tomatoes. One reason I don’t like gardening is that it takes much more work than what Jesus describes in today’s Gospel. It’s more than scattering seeds, getting a good night’s sleep, then enjoying a bountiful harvest.
Yet, I understand Jesus’ point. So much happens behind the scenes. We don’t see the seed die, sprout, root and grow. It just happens miraculously. The same seems true in my spiritual life. I pray, participate in Mass, read the Scriptures, but nothing seems to happen. Then one day, seemingly out of nowhere, I begin to notice that because of God’s grace those tiny seeds are beginning to bear fruit. Like the man in the parable, I know not how.
Prayer: Creator Father, nourish the seeds of my faith so they bear abundant fruit.
