January 31, St. John Bosco

Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.— Psalm 24 (see 6)

Mass Readings: Hebrews 10:19-25/Mark 4:21-25

Night Vision

Most of us don’t put much stock in dreams, but for St. John Bosco, whose feast we celebrate today, dreams were the roadmap that led to his vocation. In his dreams, he recognized God speaking to him, even when he wasn’t particularly thrilled with the message. The dreams prompted him to care for neglected boys, and the rest, as they say, is history.

How often do we miss a message meant to take us farther down our spiritual path? Things happen and we chalk it up to coincidence. We hear something that speaks to our heart and second guess ourselves, feeling silly for considering an option that might take us off the beaten path. St. John Bosco reminds us that following God’s plan for us will never lead us astray.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, open my ears and my heart and lead me down right paths.
