Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. — Psalm 40: 8a and 9a
Mass Readings: Hebrews 7:25–8:6/Mark 3:7-12
St. Francis de Sales, whose feast we celebrate today, is a favorite of mine. In fact, I have a relic of this beloved saint on a shelf next to my desk. You might assume he’s high on my list because he’s the patron saint of writers, but it goes deeper than that. This 17th-century bishop’s words are so relevant to our modern times, his lessons spot on for those struggling to live our faith amid the busyness of life.
Don’t believe me? Try this quote on for size: “Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset.” St. Francis reminds us that holiness and peace can be found right where we are.
Prayer: St. Francis, guide my efforts to find spiritual meaning in everyday life.
