The Lord remembers his covenant for ever. — Psalm 105:8a
Mass Readings: Hebrews 2:14-18/Mark1:29-39
I was saddened recently when someone close to me said, “Prayer is worthless.” She’s been fighting an uphill battle through life lately. One problem after another has derailed her and left her wondering where God is in her suffering, why bad things happen to good people.
Today’s first reading from the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us that because Jesus himself “was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested.” Jesus suffered, and yet He continued to pray. Even from the cross He prayed. Prayer isn’t worthless. We might not receive the answer we want, but we’ll receive the grace to face whatever problem is put before us. Jesus, through His humanity, shows us the way to His Father, even when we’re being tested.
Prayer: Father, I don’t always understand the path You set, but I trust in the destination.
