Too Quick with Answers

I don’t remember ever noticing the verses that introduce Christ’ telling of the Parable of the Prodigal Son: “Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus.” That seems to imply a lot about them. Something was off with their lives. Something was missing. They were looking for answers. For hope. Peace. A fresh start. A new life. And who was miffed by their presence? The scribes and Pharisees. Those in position. Those with power. They certainly didn’t want to upset the status quo even though, Jesus had pointed out time and again, their status quo wasn’t good. It was off. Something was missing but they were always giving answers.

I would be wise to offer others “my” answers less often, and draw near and listen to Jesus more often.

Prayer: I know, I know, Dear Lord: Sometimes I can be a know-it-all. Help me work on that.
