The June 19 issue of Our Sunday Visitor Newsweekly looks at the one-year anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Ladauto Si’ (“On Care for Our Common Home”) and features a story on how dioceses in the United States are working to implement its vision.
Baltimore Auxiliary Bishop Denis J. Madden finds Laudato Si’ already present in his ministry to communities in inner-city Baltimore that suffer poverty and violence. Bishop Madden, 76, sees the connections in how the poor are the first to suffer when environmental degradation occurs and how the hardest hit areas of Baltimore lack greenspace and fresh groceries.
