By getting your family praying together when your children are young will lead you into rituals and traditions that will enhance your family’s relationship with God and with one another. For tips on teaching children how to pray, read tips from catechist and psychologist Joseph D. White in our Parish Resources section»
1. Lorene asks the first question at the beginning of her article, “Ever feel as if your life is compartmentalized?” If so, how? What are some compartments into which your life is divided?
2. Do you think it is more challenging to integrate faith into our everyday lives because of contemporary culture? Why or why not?
3. One of the central messages of the Gospels is Christ’s call to leave everything behind and “follow me.” Do we heed this call? How can we bring Christ from the periphery of our lives to the very center?
4. Lorene says that faith can be the piece that brings all of the other areas of our lives together. What are some small ways that you can integrate faith into your everyday life?

Sept. 2 — Luke 14:1,7-14: JESUS TALKS ABOUT HUMILITY. Jesus calls us to offer hospitality to those who cannot give us anything. How do we welcome the poor, the disabled, the needy into our family circle? When have you let someone else have the spotlight? Is this what real humility means? Sit somewhere in church you’ve never sat before and get to know someone, especially someone who appears to be alone.
Sept. 9 — Luke 14:25-33: GOD IS FIRST. How do the things we own help us to serve others? Do they ever stand in our way of thinking of others first or of putting God first? Jesus says being His follower we can’t do things halfway. How can we jump in to God’s life with both feet this week? What are our family’s words of wisdom that we live by? Do they come from TV? The culture? The Gospel?
Sept. 16 — Luke 15:1-10(or 1-32): HAPPINESS WHEN THE LOST IS FOUND. Have you ever felt lost and found … by friends? By your family? By God? Have you ever found and welcomed back someone (forgiven them)? Is there someone we need to go and find to welcome home?
Sept. 23 — Luke 16:1-13(or 10-13): BELONGING TO GOD IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY. In our home, do we talk more about money (things, things to do, to have) or about God? What does that tell us about ourselves? Whom or what do you trust? When did someone trust you in something small? In something big? How or when does God trust you?
Sept. 30 — Luke 16:19-31: THE RICH MAN AND LAZARUS. Who do we see each day who is suffering? What can we do to help? Is there a way we could simplify our lifestyle? Our God is a God of connections — we’re the ones who create gaps. Is there someone we can be connected to this week?

Ideally, your parish will offer childcare for parents of young children on these evenings. If that is not possible, try coordinating these evenings with your Child Faith Formation staff person. While parents are engaged in small faith sharing groups, offer children a craft, activity or even a Christian movie at the same time.
Because Take Out magazine is often shipped early, you can plan ahead for each month’s discussion article. Check this website for monthly discussion questions, tips for successful family faith formation and new ways that Take Out can be a ministry resource.
Make sure to let participants know that they can bring a friend or another couple to next month’s discussion – numbers often grow as the series continues.
Gracious God, we thank you for this sacred time to come together as your people to listen, share and tell our stories. We ask that you send your Spirit upon us to guide us each day in loving our children, doing our jobs and following Jesus along the way. Amen.
