Create a "Cross of Sacrifice"

Cut a paper cross out of solid-colored paper and hang it where the children can reach it. Then, fill a bowl or purple box with small pieces of tissue paper. As each person — or the entire family — does something special for someone else, a piece of tissue paper can be initialed by the person and pasted with a glue stick onto the cross. The tissue paper could also be used if someone has accepted a hard day gracefully.

These small bits of tissue symbolize the ways we can imitate Christ’s sacrifice. This Cross of Sacrifice creates another visual cue for the children in your house; they can see what each person has done throughout the season. This serves as a reminder to those who have not done anything that they should begin.

At the Easter Vigil, the whole family might want to offer a special prayer of thanksgiving to God in gratitude for his assistance in creating such a wonderful offering. This activity helps everyone in the family see that our sacrifices are made possible only with the help of the Holy Spirit.
