The Mystery of Mary
In this scholarly yet accessible volume, Father Paul Haffner provides what might well be called a theological portrait of Our Lady -- or, better yet, a theological landscape of Mariology (the study of Mary). Illuminating Catholic doctrine from a historical perspective, he offers a clear, carefully structured overview of the subject, outlining the basic scheme of what constitutes Mariology and how it is related to other forms of theological enquiry.
Working closely with the relevant biblical texts, the author then goes on to examine each of the most significant Catholic doctrines about Our Lady: Mary as Mother of God; her perpetual virginity; her immaculate conception; her assumption; her queenship; and her roles as Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of All Graces.
A priest of the diocese of Portsmouth, England, with a doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Father Haffner lectures at the Gregorian and at other pontifical schools in the Eternal City. This title complements several of his earlier works on mysteries of the faith: "The Mystery of Creation," "The Sacramental Mystery" and "The Mystery of Reason."
