Access to our newspaper's online content is normally restricted to subscribers, but we're bending the rules for the April 15-20 visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States. Starting with our March 30 issue, which launched our preview of the trip, all of our papal visit coverage will be accessible for free. Check out osv.com/papalvisit.
And a reminder to our print subscribers: You always have full access online to all the stories in the issue as soon as they go to press. Go to osv.com > periodicals > OSV newsweekly, and select the issue in which you're interested. Nonsubscribers are limited to one featured story. (Another good reason to be a full subscriber to America's oldest and most-circulated Catholic newsweekly!)
And there's lots more content at osv.com/papalvisit. You'll find a "web of prayers" we set up for Pope Benedict's trip. Join others from around the country by entering your brief prayer there; all the entries will be gathered and delivered to the pope.
You can also download a free prayer card we printed for the papal visit.
If you've got a way to print on 11-by-17-inch paper, be sure to download a free poster that includes the trip schedule, facts on Pope Benedict, and resources to keep handy while he's in the United States. The poster was the center insert of our March 30 issue.
At our papal visit website, you'll also find our papal visit blog. I'll be coordinating our coverage on the ground in Washington, D.C., and New York, and I'll be blogging from that perspective. I'll be backed up in New York by Mary DeTurris Poust, our New York-based contributing editor. Russ Shaw, our D.C.-based contributing editor, will be posting his analysis in real time.
We'll be devoting an unparalleled level of resources to covering this trip for you. We're eager to hear what Pope Benedict has to tell Catholics in America. His visit is a great opportunity for our country and for the Church in the United States.
Much has already been said in the secular media along predictable story lines. But it does the pope injustice to already be squeezing his trip into the paradigms of "crackdown," or "liberal vs. conservative" or "out of touch."
One thing that Pope Benedict has shown himself to be is a teacher who speaks and writes in accessible language. Let's start by listening to him. We'll try to provide you with the context.

This is another solid issue that you'll want to read cover to cover.
Of particular note is the In Focus piece which explores possible causes for the decline of Religious women orders. It's written by Ann Carey, an expert on the issue, and author of the decade-old authoritative guide, "Sisters in Crisis" (OSV, $15.95).
