The Year of Faith

What is the Year of Faith?

In this special year, believers around the world are called to renew their commitment to the faith that is "always the same, yet the source of ever new light." Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI proclaimed a Year of Faith which began on October 11, 2012, and concludes on November 24, 2013, the feast of Christ the King.

The start of this Year of Faith coincided with the anniversaries of two great events that have marked the life of the Church: the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Year of Faith is a time to refect on the gift of faith, deepen our knowledge and understanding of Church teaching, grow closer to Scripture, nourish our faith through the Holy Eucharist, and practice the "New Evangelization."

Throughout the year, all the publications of Our Sunday Visitor will be shining a spotlight on the three branches of the Year of Faith – Knowing your faith, living your faith, and sharing your faith. Through study of the Catechism, reflection on the documents of Vatican II, and focusing on implementing the New Evangelization, Catholics are called, not just to follow Christ, but to be 'like Christ.'
