(First used as Teacher Pattern, October 2008)
from The Big Book of Catholic Customs and Traditions for Children's Faith Formation by Beth Branigan McNamara with Sue Robinson and Anne Neuberger
One of the most beloved saints the world over is Francis of Assisi. Francis so loved God that he worked to have others come to love God, too. Francis rejoiced in life, and in the people and animals he met along the way. All this love and joy gives us many wonderful stories about him. Here is one of them.
There are two ways to use this story:
1) Make a copy of the illustrations for each child. The children can color them. Then cut out the pictures and mix them up. Next, read the text for the story aloud. As you read, have children place the pictures in the correct sequence.
2) Make a copy of both the illustrations and text for each child. Cut out. For each child, pile three 3" by 5" notecards, and fold in half to form a booklet. Staple the booklet on the fold of the middle pages. The pictures and texts can be matched up, sequenced, and glued onto the pages of the booklet.
