"Everybody loves old family pictures and letters -- the older the better. Grandchildren often ask their grandparents, 'Tell us about the olden days?' We have a primal need to know our ancestors.

"Signs and Mysteries: Revealing Ancient Christian Symbols (Our Sunday Visitor, $15.95), by Mike Aquilina with illustrations by Lea Marie Ravotti, fills that need for Catholics by helping them get to know our Christian ancestors through the symbols they left behind. The book provides explanations of 25 ancient symbols and more than 100 illustrations. Read more about the illustrator here»

Activity

Invite the young people to create a Christian religious symbol of their own. Invite them to share their work with the rest of the group. Ask if they can discover its meaning.
