Pope Benedict XVI has devoted his time to writing a book about the Apostles. Each Apostle has a lifetime of lessons for us. Let’s pull up a chair and look at the Twelve and their relationship with Our Lord.

Our Teacher Pattern is "Fishing for Apostles." Using the fish pattern from Beth McNamara’s Christian Beginnings, Volume I, make a dozen copies and ask students to illustrate and color the fish, one to each of the Twelve. For younger children, substitute Matthias for Judas. For older children, use Judas. Then, ask the kids to come up with personality traits for each Apostle: was Peter courageous? was Judas suspicious? was Thomas doubtful? was John sensitive? Point out how our traits can be used for good things and bad things. End with this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, You chose all kinds of people to be Your Apostles. Some of them were rich; some were poor. Some were very smart. Others were brave. One doubted You but came to trust You. Another allowed himself to be isolated and overcome with fear and betrayed You. Look upon us with mercy, Lord. May we use our courage, our gentleness, our intellect, our talents in ways that promote goodness and peace. Amen. Click to download or view the PDF file.»

Catechist's Know-How is "Keeping the Faith in Public" by Mary Lou Rosien»
Dear Lord, what does it mean to be holy? You are holy, I know. Can I be holy? Am I expected to be holy? To be holy means to be God or to belong to God. I belong to You. Therefore, I, too, am holy. This is amazing, Lord. This makes me question my behavior, my speech, my perceptions, and my attitude. If I am holy, I must work harder to look the part! Amen.
