March 2007 Activity Two

Saint Smock: A “wearable” story

Use plastic table coverings to make the pictures to tell a story.  The children wear the characters and make the story more interesting

You will need:

  • Plastic table coverings
  • Scissors
  • Permanent markers

To do:

Cut the table coverings into pieces about 12” wide by 36” long.  Adjust to fit the size of the child.  Cut a hole in the middle to slip the child’s head through, about 8” in diameter.

With permanent marker draw the characters or things that are part of the story you are telling to the front of the smock.  For example, if you are telling the story of creation, draw a sun on one smock, water on another, etc.  As you tell the story have the person with that character or scene stand up.  Add movement and voice if necessary.
