Inspire the children into Lenten action by decorating your room with acts of Lenten kindness. Make a garland of paper hands—one hand for each child. Hang the garland along a wall high enough to be out of reach. Ask the children to offer ideas for Lenten resolutions. This would include an act of love or service or sacrificing something. Examples might be to visit someone elderly on a regular basis, volunteer in the church nursery, shovel someone’s walk, pray more often each day or give up pop, a favorite TV show or candy. Give each child a hand from the garland. Invite the children to open the hands and write their Lenten resolutions in the middle of a heart that you have drawn on the inside of the hand. Then hang the hands back on the garland as a reminder of their Lenten resolutions.
With the same classroom-tested style that made our Big Book of Ideas for Children's Faith Formation, by Beth McNamara, et al, so popular, the Big Book of Catholic Customs and Traditions shows you step-by-step how to make learning fun for children ages 3 to 8, and beyond. This 184-page paperback book is just $24.95 plus S&H. Order here»
