Activity 1 February 2008

It is certainly a cross sometimes to stand up for our beliefs in the court of public opinion. As you observe the Stations of the Cross this Lent, encourage your students to pray for the citizens of the United States as we struggle to vote our consciences in this election year.

Create a Stations of the Cross with your students leading them to use each station as motivation to stand up for what is right in our classrooms, in our communities, in our country.

Make a large cross from poster board. Divide the stations among the class, having groups create each of the fourteen stations small enough to fit together on the large cross. Attach each station to the large cross and put this prayer in the center:

Dear Jesus, standing up for what is right is not easy. By praying the Stations of the Cross, may I receive Your grace and strength to always do what is right and be a good example to others. May our leaders also have the grace and strength to do what is right. Amen.

For older students, challenge them to write prayers for each station.
