Love One Another

loving mother

One of our favorite books to read before bed in our house is Sam McBratney’s classic, Guess How Much I Love You. Both of our kids (now ages 7 and 4) get a kick out of watching Little Nutbrown Hare try to convince his dad that he loves him more. This example leads to our own game of who loves who more with the kids saying, “I love you more than brownies!” And then I say, “I love you more than coffee.” And on it goes. We feel good about helping our kids learn that they never have to guess how much we love them. Or how much God loves them.

When asked about the two greatest commandments, Jesus responds, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-40) Fostering a spirit of love in your home, classroom and community is at the very heart of our faith.

Prayer

This month we celebrate the love God has for us and the love we have for others.
How lucky we are to have so much love in our lives!
God of Love, we thank you today for the greatest gift of all, love.
We thank you for our families, teachers and friends who have shown us how to love.
Help us to remember this day and everyday, that love is the greatest gift we can give and receive. Amen.
