I haven't committed mortal sins. Why should I go to Confession?

Confession is healing and enlightening. Confessing minor faults and weaknesses is helpful. It helps us discover habits of sin. Confessing assists us in examining how selfless we are, how well we are using our gifts and talents. It may also bring up concerns about our relationship with God. We must remember, we are not the only participant in the confessional: the Holy Spirit will be at work as well.

What if I'm having trouble forgiving someone else?

The is good material for Confession. A priest can tell us what forgiveness is and what it is not. He can also help us with the process of forgiving.

Could a priest ever tell someone what we said in Confession?

No. He is bound by Canon (Church) Law not to discuss what a person has confessed. This is known as the Seal of confession.

Can I expect ongoing spiritual support from my priest?

Ask the priest. He may prefer you seek out someone who is trained in spiritual direction. However, many priests know well how to help parishioners grow in their spiritual lives. Do ask!
