The Way We Pray November 2007

Mealtime Prayers

Grace before Meals

Catholic Family Prayer BookBless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts
which we are about to receive
 from thy bounty.
Through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

Many families that have lost a loved one add the following verse:
May the souls of the faithful departed,
 through the mercy of God,
 rest in peace.
Amen.

Grace at Table

God of all goodness,
through the breaking of bread together
you strengthen the bonds that unite us in  love.
Bless + us and these your gifts.
Grant that as we sit down together at table in   joy and sincerity,
we may grow always closer in the bonds of  love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
May your gifts refresh us, O Lord,
and your grace give us strength.
R. Amen.

Prayer After Meals

We give you thanks for all your gifts, almighty  God,
living and reigning now and forever.
Amen.

Thanksgiving After Meals

Lord, give all people the food they need,
so that they may join us in giving you thanks.
R. Amen.
When members of the household are absent, the leader concludes:
May God be with us and with N. (and N.)
R. Amen.

Thanksgiving After a Meal

We give you thanks, O Lord,
for all the graces and benefits
we have received from your bounty.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

From the Catholic Family Prayer Book, edited by Jacquelyn Lindsey. From helping new parents teach their children the prayers that will sustain them throughout life to refreshing the memories of prayers learned long ago, the Catholic Family Prayer Book is destined to become a beloved and cherished part of every Catholic family's home and heart.
