Stewardship Tip October 2008

Refresh, revive, and re-energize your stewardship committee! Chances are your stewardship council or committee is a group of talented, hardworking, creative people who give generously of their time and talent to introduce and invite others to stewardship as a way of life.  And they work with special focus and zeal in the weeks just before the annual stewardship renewal.

Maybe it’s time to rest, relax and re-charge.  It’s probably too late to send some of them to the International Catholic Stewardship Council’s annual conference in Chicago this year (in Chicago, October 12-15).

But next year’s conference is in Dallas, September 20-23, 2009, and there’s an “early bird” discount for folks who sign up early and lots of time to save up for the airfare and hotel costs.

There is also an affordable “Living Catholic Stewardship” conference in Cincinnati next summer, June 24-26, 2009, sponsored by Our Sunday Visitor (more information at www.osvenvelopes.com or from OSV’s Julie Kenny at 800-348-2886).

The ICSC website (www.catholicstewardship.org) has a list of up-coming regional stewardship conferences and diocesan stewardship days near you.

Maybe it’s time to read or re-read the Bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship together – slowly, reflectively, one chapter per meeting.  Or e-mail Sharon Hueckel at shueckel@olaclaremont.org for a 6-week, “RENEW-like” faith-sharing version of that pastoral letter.

Other wonderful stewardship books to read together include:

This year, plan to do something extra to feed and affirm those good stewards whose energy and zeal fuels your on-going parish stewardship effort.  A little time and money invested in your stewardship council in the coming year will pay rich dividends.  Try it – you won’t be sorry!
