“Behold this Heart which so loved men that it spared nothing, even to the exhausting of itself and wearing itself out, in order to show them its love… Instead of acknowledgment I receive from the greater number nothing but ingratitude, by their irreverences and sacrileges, and by the coldness and contempt with which they treat me in this sacrament of love. But what I feel most deeply is that there are hearts consecrated to me which treat me so. It is on this account that I make this demand of you: that the first Friday after the Octave of the Blessed Sacrament [Corpus Christi] be devoted to a special feast in honor of my Heart; that you will go to communion on that day and give it a reparation of honor by and act of amendment to repair the insults it has received during the time of its being exposed on the altar. I promise you, also, that my Heart will expand itself that it may pour forth, with abundance, the influence of its divine love upon those who shall thus honor it, and shall do their best to have such honor paid to it.” — Christ to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
