Discussion Questions September 2008

Adults

What is your attitude about the work you do?  Which of the mail carriers in this month’s parable are you most like?  Why?

“We serve best when we serve from within our own giftedness,” a noted speaker on stewardship often says.  In what ways are you gifted?  In what ways do you serve?  How are the two things related in your life?

Labor Day marks the start of a new program year in many parishes.  In what new ways will you use your talents to benefit your family, your parish, and/or your community this fall?

Teens

When have you run into a worker – a store clerk, a customer service representative, a fast food employee – like the first mail carrier in this month’s parable?  How did you react?  Why?

In your experience, how does attitude affect performance – in sports, in relationships, in life?

Noted author, Matthew Kelly, says that the choices we make from moment to moment move us closer to – or farther away from – the best possible version of ourselves.  What choices have you made today?  In which direction are those choices taking you?

Children

Have you ever met someone as happy and helpful as the second postman in the story?  What was that person’s job?  What do you suppose made him or her so cheerful?

Right now, your most important “job” is to go to school.  What do you think you want to do when you grow up?  Why?

What do you do to cheer yourself up when you’re having a “bad day”?  How does your attitude affect the people around you?
