Discussion Questions Sept 2007

Adults

Stewardship is about knowing and naming our gifts – and then using them in the service of others.  Which of the twins in the parable do you think is the better steward?  Why?  Which are you more like?

What are your gifts?  When did you identify them, and are they native talents or did you have to practice to perfect those skills and abilities?

What would you really like to know or do that you don’t know or can’t do now?  What keeps you from moving toward that goal?  What might you be able to do for others if you could gain that knowledge or learn that skill?

Teens

Toddlers take lots of faltering steps and fall down often as they learn to walk.  But we’re sometimes reluctant to look foolish as we try new things.  What would you like to be able to do if you knew you would be able to do it perfectly the first time?

How do you feel about being a beginner at something?  How do you treat others who are just learning – the foreign student with her limited English or the new kid on the soccer team who doesn’t yet have his timing just right?

What do you do best?  How can you use that talent or skill to help others?

Children

What things do you do really well?  How long did it take you to get good at them?  What made you keep practicing those things?

What one new thing do you especially want to learn in this new school year?

Have you ever been the “new kid” in your class or your neighborhood?  What is one thing you could do to make the “new kids” in your class feel more comfortable?
