Discussion Questions October 2007

Adults

The two families in this month’s parable had very different ways of interacting with the environment.  Which one is your family more like?

In what ways are you a good steward of the environment?  In what ways could you improve your stewardship in this area?  What stops you?

Are you an “outdoors” person?  Or do your work and interests keep you mostly indoors instead?  How can city dwellers and those with very little contact with the natural world be good stewards of their environment?

Teens

What is your school doing to re-cycle?  What else could be done to eliminate waste on your campus?

Would it ever okay not to recycle?  Can you think of any circumstances in which a greater good might take precedence?  How do you choose when the choice is between two good things?

As Christians, we believe that God created everything that is.  Where do you feel closest to God and most grateful to be alive?

Children

What does your family do to take care of the natural world?  How can you help?

What do you recycle at school?  Why is it a good idea to recycle?

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are taught that good scouts always leave the camp site cleaner than they found it.  It’s good stewardship, too.  When have you left someplace – your classroom, the playground, a picnic area – cleaner than you found it?  How did it make you feel?
