Discussion Questions May 2007

Adults

This parable is about a fretful Martha, wanting everything to be “just right,” and a relaxed Mary, just taking pleasure in what is.  In what ways are you Martha?  In what ways Mary?

The second woman in the story enjoyed sharing the beauty of her garden with others.  What do you do (or have) that you enjoy sharing with others?

May is the month we honor Mary – and the month the church celebrates Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit.  To which do you feel closer in your prayer life?  Why?

Teens

What in your life are you kind of compulsive about – wanting everything to be “just right”?  In what areas are you more relaxed and laid back?

The second woman in the story enjoyed sharing her garden with others, even though it wasn’t perfect.  What do you have that you enjoy sharing with friends?

That second woman was also ecologically aware.  What are you doing to help care for the earth?

Children

Have you ever planted seeds in a garden?  What kind?  What was the hardest part?  What part was the most fun?

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13th.  What will you do to let your mom – or your grandma or a favorite teacher – know how much you appreciate her?

One lady in the story was very neat and organized – and very nervous about doing everything just right.  The other one wasn’t as fussy and seemed to enjoy her garden and her friends more.  What do you do that you like to share with your friends?
