Discussion Questions July 2009

Adults

How do you react to the 24/7 news cycle?  Are you a news junkie or an ostrich?  How is this ultimately a question about the stewardship of time?

The Gospel according to John says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  How are truth and freedom related in your life?

Good reflection questions for the Fourth of July: How are freedom and liberty the same?  How are they different?

Teens

This month’s “new parable” could be written about cell phones instead – one person who is constantly on the phone no matter what else is going on, one who never even remembers to turn it on, and one who uses the phone responsibly.  Which one are you?  What difference does it make?

What are you doing to cultivate the important relationships in your life?  How is that good stewardship?

How is your summer going?  Is there a healthy balance between work and recreation?  Between learning and relaxing?  Is there anything you’re particularly looking forward to doing between now and the time school starts again in the fall?

Children

What do we celebrate on the Fourth of July?  How does your family celebrate it?

What does it mean to have “too much of a good thing”?  Can you think of an example?  How can having too much something good be bad for someone?

Have you made any new friends this summer?  Have you had a chance to see relatives or friends you don’t usually get to be with other times of the year?
