Discussion Questions February 2007

Adults

What gifts and talents do you have that you are a particularly good steward of? Of which gifts could you be a better steward? How?

What hobbies or interests have you outgrown or moved beyond? Is there a local organization – Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, a senior center – to whom could you donate the unused materials?

As Lent begins this month, consider giving up one wasteful habit – for good, not just ’til Easter. It’s another step toward stewardship as a way of life!

Teens

Which of the two brothers in the story are you more like?

In the parable, the second brother’s talent generated gifts for others as well as the enjoyment he felt in pursuing his wood-working hobby. What gift-generating gifts or talents do you have? (Remember that things like the pleasure a listener feels in hearing a piano solo well-performed, for example, are also gifts.)

Finishing what you start is good stewardship. What have you left unfinished? Why? What would it take to finish it?

Children

What things do you have that you take especially good care of? Why do you take such good care of them?

Are there other things about which you are sometimes less careful and more careless? Why?

Lent begins this month. Perhaps good Lenten practice would be to begin recycling every chance you get – soft drink cans, water bottles, scrap paper… What else can you think of to recycle and re-use?
