Discussion Questions December 2009

Adults

Instead of a “Modern Disciple” or a “New Parable,” this month’s Grace in Action features a collection of contemporary aphorisms, or “words to live by.”  Which of them strike you as particularly wise or worth remembering?

Are there any you disagree with or don’t find relevant or applicable in your life?  Which one(s)?  Why?

In the extra-busy time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we seem to be focused on others most of the time – buying gifts, decorating the house, fixing food, going out to Christmas pageants and concerts…  How will you make sure that you – and God – don’t get lost in the shuffle?

Teens

Read over the collection of “refrigerator sayings” in this issue.  Are there one or two that seem to speak to you?  Which ones?  Why?  (Are there any that seem pretty “lame”?  Why?)

What is your favorite family tradition during the holiday season?  How did it become “traditional” and why is it your favorite?

What will you do – for yourself, for others, for the Lord – with your time off during the Christmas holidays?  Any resolutions for the new year?

Children

One good way to wait for Christmas is to try to do something kind or helpful for someone else every single day from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve.  See if you can do it!

What is your favorite part of getting ready for Christmas?  Why do you like that part best?

Why do you think people make New Year’s resolutions?  Will you make any?
