As we’ve turned the calendar into February already — where does the time go? — forgive me for taking a bit of space to do a little bit of a “plug” for Our Sunday Visitor in honor of Catholic Press Month.
First, I’d like to take a moment to thank you, our loyal subscribers, for your interest in and support of the work that OSV Newsweekly does week in and week out. Weekly periodicals, especially in the Catholic space, are becoming few and far between, and so it is a great privilege to still be able to “visit” your homes and parishes each week to bring you both Catholic news and secular news from a Catholic perspective. We are able to do so because of your support, and we are very grateful.
While this weekly newspaper was the origin of Our Sunday Visitor when it was founded back in 1912 by then-Father John Francis Noll, the OSV company has grown by leaps and bounds since then, and a wide variety of offerings — all rooted in service to the Church — are now available.
In addition to the Newsweekly, Our Sunday Visitor also publishes The Priest magazine (monthly), The Catholic Answer (now in a weekly digital newsletter format), and two gorgeous magazines for young women and young men, respectively: Radiant (published four times a year) and Valiant (published twice a year).
In addition, we have acquired and are relaunching Deacon Digest, a magazine exclusively serving the permanent diaconate. The first issue of this bimonthly offering will be available this summer, but in the meantime we are providing a monthly newsletter for deacons to stay connected to the Church and to one another.
OSV’s reach also extends far beyond periodicals. We publish books, curriculum programs and a Vacation Bible School offering. We produce pamphlets and other catechetical material for parishes. We provide websites and apps for parishes and dioceses. We assist with parish and diocesan mailings, and help parishes better serve their communities by increasing their offertory contributions. And of course Our Sunday Visitor is the nation’s largest provider of offering envelopes and also provides a platform for online giving.
It’s almost mind-boggling for one to consider all the good work that is achieved by this one company.
But the best part is that, because we are a nonprofit, our proceeds funnel to the OSV Institute, which in turn provides funding to Catholic apostolates all over the country.
Those of us who work at OSV are incredibly blessed to be a part of an organization that is able to assist so many individuals, parishes and dioceses in growing more deeply in their faith and to better fulfill their own missions of service to the Church.
