Pope Francis points us to Mary as an ongoing guide to living a merciful life. Mary is the Mother of Mercy "because her entire life was patterned after the presence of mercy made flesh" (Misericordiae Vultus No. 24). From her "yes" to the angel Gabriel at the Annunciation, to a lifetime of discipleship, to her presence at the foot of the cross, Mary is our model in following Jesus in mercy and love.

We have an opportunity to examine more fully Church teaching on Mary, to study her life and example, and to draw closer to Christ through our rich tradition of Marian devotions. In 2017, Our Sunday Visitor is focusing on our spiritual mother and the first disciple, in order to grow closer to her son Jesus. To make the most of this 12-month focus, we've developed an easy-to-follow plan for parishes: Gather, Grow, Give and Glorify.

Gather, Grow, Give and Glorify are ideas and activities that your parish can choose to implement at any time throughout the year.
