God’s Eternal Love

My mother has dementia. She can carry on a simple conversation but rarely initiates one. She no longer phones me. When I call her, I have to be careful not to ask things like “so what did you do today?” She can’t remember. She knows who I am but isn’t engaged in my life as she once was. Before, it was easy to know she loved me and cared about me. Now, she’s distant and removed. I have finally discovered how much her love meant to me.

In today’s Gospel John talks about how much God loves us. Honestly, sometimes I don’t feel God’s presence and don’t feel God’s love. Life is dry and bitter. It’s only when we truly believe we’re children of God that life rewards us with a joy that’s like no other.

Prayer: Lord, let me walk in the light of Your love all my days on this earth.
