United to Christ
When St. Katharine Drexel (1858-1955) was canonized in 2000, she became the second American-born saint. I always wonder about the saints, how they managed to break out of the ordinary constraints of human life to do extraordinary things for God. St. Katharine’s fervent belief in the power of prayer provides us part of the answer.
She advised her sisters with these words: “We have but to unite ourselves to Him and our prayers are powerful; to unite our weakness to His strength and we will be strengthened and above all to unite our love to the love He has for each Sister and our charity will be full, and we shall be united through His charity and love for one another to this God of Charity.” Sound advice from a spiritual powerhouse.
Prayer: Creator of the Universe, on this Lenten Saturday, I unite my weakness to Your strength.
