Mundane Missionaries

A little girl was writing an essay about a missionary. Several well-known names crossed her mind, but she didn’t really know what they were like. So she wrote: “The person I think is a missionary, and a good one, is my mother. This may sound peculiar but surely you don’t have to be ordained to be a missionary. My mum’s mission is to be a housewife and a mother. My mum has never been selfish and put herself first before her family. Just like the famous missionaries my mother has needed a lot of courage.”

Jesus told the man in today’s Gospel to be a missionary at home. This may sound less exciting or glamorous, but it’s certainly no less important or demanding. Where are you being a missionary today?

Prayer: Lord of the harvest, help me to bear faithful witness to You wherever I am.
