Your word is forever, Lord. — Psalm 119:89

Mass Readings: Wisdom 7:22-8:1 / Luke 17:20-25

Truth Endures

Some modern critics of Catholicism complain that the Church should “keep up with the times.” From their point of view, there should be new rules, or fewer rules, for the 21st century. They argue that some dogma, some teachings, should be dropped. But that’s not what we read in today’s responsorial psalm. “Through all generations, your truth endures; you have established the earth, and it stands firm.”

There have always been those who challenged God’s law given to us millenniums ago, yet God’s law is universal. It’s true for all people at all times. Just as Jesus was “rejected by this generation,” there are some members of every generation who will reject the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me live in the truth of Your love.
