I will bless the Lord at all times. — Psalm 34:2

Mass Readings: Wisdom 2:23-3:9 / Luke 17:7-10

In the Hand of God

There’s a Jewish poem that reads: “When I go to sleep, I place my soul in the palm of His hand.” This image is so beautiful to me that I’ve had it posted over my desk for years so that I can read it every day. Very similar words appear in today’s reading from Wisdom: “the souls of the just are in the hand of God.”

To picture and believe that my soul and the souls of my loved ones are held fast in the hand of God is fantastic. However, the promise was for “the just,” and I’m far from that. Thank goodness it’s not by my own actions but by the actions of Jesus that I can ask forgiveness, be absolved, and be considered just.

Prayer: Dear God, hold us in the palm of Your hand — justified by Jesus.
