Thirsty Hearts

Today’s Gospel for the Vigil Mass presents me with a soul-check. Jesus says, “Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me.” So how do I rate as a fountain? What do I do to quench the thirst of the people in my life? What is it they thirst for?

In every life, the answers to those questions will be different. So often people need simply to be seen and heard with love, not judgment. They long to have their thirst acknowledged, even when I have no way to satisfy it. They are soothed by knowing they are not alone, that, like them, I have my own unquenchable thirsts, and that all of us can find relief only in the One who created us with thirsty hearts.

Prayer: Lord, let me be a channel of Your grace.
