Go out to all the world and tell the Good News. — Mark 16:15
Mass readings: Acts 9:1-20 / John 6:52-59
Slammed to the ground, sightless, stunned, and scolded by the Risen Jesus. It may challenge us to relate to this dramatic story of Saul’s conversion in the first reading, yet, there were times we’ve lain helpless, too. Did a call to convert our lives and priorities come through the stunning blow of unemployment, illness, or divorce? Have we found ourselves body-slammed by the death of a loved one, economic hardship, or despair? The Lord knows how to get our attention!
It’s interesting to conjecture if Saul lost his sight on the road to Damascus or gained it.
Maybe the Lord closed His disciple’s eyes to evil, but opened them to the Spirit. Let’s journey with St. Paul as mentor and model on the road to sainthood. It’s a bumpy ride.
Prayer: St. Paul, fill us with your zeal for God.
