I will sing of your salvation. — Psalm 71:(see 15)
Mass readings: Isaiah 49:1-6 / John 13:21-33,36-38
Our Multiple Vocations
In today’s first reading, Isaiah tells the people, “The Lord called me from birth.” Each of us could say the same. At the moment of our conception, He created our unique soul for our unique body and — body and soul — we were born at this time, in this place, under these circumstances. Later, when we became adults, He called us to a “big” vocation (single, married or priesthood/religious life) but to a lot of other ones, too.
Some involve the work we do: teacher, mail carrier, nurse, and so on. Others have to do with our relationships: parent, sibling, adult child of an aging parent, friend. That list also goes on and on. And it changes over time, all under the single invitation of our loving Father calling us home.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, be with all those considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life.
