The Lord remembers his covenant for ever. — Psalm 105:8

Mass Readings: Hebrews 2:14-18 / Mark 1:29-39

Jesus with Us

Today’s reading from Hebrews contains a wonderful verse: “Because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested” (2:18).

Jesus is God, the Lord of all creation, the master of the universe. But we don’t often depict Him as a mighty ruler on a throne robed in rich garments. Instead the image of Jesus on our walls is that of a bleeding, battered, crucified criminal. Because He has suffered, He can help us in our suffering in a unique way. I’ve had some hard times in my life, times of grief and pain, times when I’ve been confused and adrift. But there is no place of darkness where Jesus hasn’t already been. Are you in pain, worried, grief-stricken? Jesus has been there, too. Jesus knows. God knows.

Prayer: Jesus, I want to walk with You today in all that I do.
