December 19, Fourth Sunday of Advent

Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory. — Psalm 24:7 and 10

Mass reading: Isaiah 7:10-14 / Romans 1:1-7 / Matthew 1:18-24

A Parent’s Example

I learned a lot from the example of the faith of my parents. Could it be that Jesus also was affected by the example of His parents and, in some way, His life ministry was shaped by them?

Joseph was obviously a compassionate man in wanting to excuse Mary from what would have been considered adultery and severely punished. He would show courage in their journey to Egypt. Mary would later prove her strength gathered from much suffering, showing strong leadership after the crucifixion when she kept the apostles from abandoning ship. On Pentecost (50 days after the Last Supper) they were gathered together “in the upper room” with Mary when the Holy Spirit came upon them. Blessings on all parents!

Prayer: St Joseph, be with us and help us to know Mary and Jesus with that same love you shared with them.
