December 10, Friday Advent Weekday

Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life. — John 8:12

Mass reading: Isaiah 48:17-19 / Matthew 11:16-19

Christ, the Compass

Some days you just can’t win. No matter what you do, somebody is going to gripe. “The Baptist is a hippie and Jesus is a glutton!” The point Jesus makes is the same as Isaiah: keep your eye on God and He’ll lead you to the right decision.

The prosperity that Isaiah promises for faithful love is the richness of grace that is poured out on those who love God. They grow richer, more fruitful, more capable of transforming the world. “Wisdom is vindicated by her works.” The proof is in the pudding. Keep your eye on Jesus — He is our compass, leading us to the Father.

Prayer: Lord, let me not be judgmental, but see the good in other people’s hearts.
