The Lord our God comes with power. — Isaiah 40:10
Mass reading: Isaiah 40:1-11 / Matthew 18:12-14
We all know that when we’re lost or terrified our heart begins to pound rapidly. So it is with the little lost sheep; but when the shepherd finds it he holds the lamb to his breast where his calm, steady pulse eases the lamb’s heartbeat back to its normal rhythm.
Like a good shepherd, Jesus anxiously seeks us out when we have despaired or gone astray so that He might gather us in His arms and hold us to His Sacred Heart, calming our fears. Nourished by His love, we in turn are then sent along to be other Christs and do the same: to be compassionate to all who are burdened and wearied by the storms of life.
Prayer: O Sacred Heart of Jesus, strengthen me to live my faith wholeheartedly.
