The Lord is my light and my salvation — Psalm 27:1
Mass reading: Isaiah 29:17-24 / Matthew 9:27-31
Light and darkness are strong threads in the weaving out of the Advent/Christmas theme. Today’s two blind men were healed but told not to broadcast the news, whereas the shepherds who visited the Christ child spread the word of what they had experienced. They were the first missionaries.
As we celebrate Francis Xavier, the great missionary to the Far East, remember it’s now your turn and mine to be missionaries right here in our own hometowns. Let us be bearers of the light of Christ and illumine the way for others to discover His goodness. Like the shepherds who discovered God wrapped in swaddling clothes, let us discover Jesus wrapped in the ordinary events of our daily lives.
Prayer: Lord, heal those areas of blindness in my heart; open the eyes of my faith.
