My soul is thirsting for the living God. — Psalm 42:3
Mass Readings: Philippians 1:18-26 / Luke 14:1, 7-11
No one likes a braggart or a pushy person. Yes, we all need confidence and a positive self-image, but it’s not necessary to flaunt our accomplishments or status in life. We’ve all heard the familiar story in today’s Gospel about those seeking first place. At wedding banquets in 2010, the host designates the seating with place cards. Evidently in Jesus’ time customs were different.
People still want nothing to do with the self-seeking and overbearing. It is as true now as it was then. Those who exalt themselves will be humbled.
Prayer: Lord keep us from parading our accomplishments and seeking first place.
