October 24, Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Lord hears the cry of the poor. — Psalm 34:7

Mass Readings: Sirach 35:12-14,16-18 / 2 Timothy 4:6-8,16-18 / Luke 18:9-14

Workaholic for God

At a conference in 2007, friends and co-workers of Blessed Mother Teresa met and shared remembrances and stories. “She was the worst patient I ever had,” said a doctor who had tended her in her last years. He told of the difficulties of getting her to slow down and rest.

Like St. Paul in today’s second reading, Mother knew she was running out of time. Because of her total commitment to her mission, she didn’t waste a minute. On the very day that she died, she was busy signing letters. Would that our dedication to the Lord’s work inspires us to be as diligent!

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help us to value our time and use it wisely for You.
